New Webchat

Sun, 29 Mar 2009 18:30:00 -0400 - ajanata

I have replaced all of the embedded chats with PJIRC, instead of our home-grown AJAX solution. While I\'m not keen on using a Java-based chat, the AJAX one was simply too taxing on the server it was running on and froze up under moderately heavy load (and since Guitar Hero: Metallica came out today, we\'ve been under far more than just \"moderately heavy\" load).

You must make sure you have a Java runtime installed on your computer, and that your web browser can use it. You can see if you have a properly configured Java installation. If you have any problems with the new chat short of it not working at all, please stop by the support chat; if you are unable to use the chat at all and have tried to install Java from the link above, please drop us an email at staff [at] socialgamer [dot] net.

Community Meeting

Tue, 24 Mar 2009 21:00:00 -0400 - ajanata

We will be having an open meeting discussing the future of SocialGamer in #socialgamer on irc.socialgamer.net at 2359 UTC this coming Thursday (that\'s 8 PM EDT, 5 PM PDT for those of you too lazy to figure it out). We need to determine what state the community is in, and if we should continue our efforts.

Sorry for that downtime, folks. It was an oversight on our part, and has been corrected.

Webchat Overloaded

Sat, 28 Feb 2009 22:48:51 -0500 - ajanata

The webchat server was overloaded earlier tonight. Connections were erratic -- some people experienced no issues, while other people were unable to use it at all. I believe I have temporarily fixed the problem (or at least put it off until we have about 4 times as many users using webchat at once). Unfortunately, I had to boot everybody that was using it off to fix it.
Please let us know if there are any further problems with the webchat. Thank you, and apologies for the interruptions.

smokyprogg\'s FC marathon

Tue, 24 Feb 2009 13:53:16 -0500 - dho

If you\'re hip to the goings-on around here, you\'ll know about this. Keep reading anyway, because stuff just got bumped up a notch.

Smokyprogg, a high-ranking Guitar Hero / Rock Band guitarist (who\'s been wowing since the GH1 days) is putting on a sort of Guitar Hell marathon. The goal of this marathon is to FC every song in Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2. The marathon is to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, so if you have any money to give away to a good cause, this is a good time to do so (tax deductible, too).

As with previous marathons we\'ve held, we\'ll be giving away a bunch of prizes. Our prizes have typically been drum-related (since that\'s been the interest in the past), but for this one, we\'re going to have prizes for guitarists, including hard-wired Les Paul guitars, a beginner electric guitar kit, and one lucky person will receive the autographed history-making guitar that Mr. Smokyprogg uses for the event.

That catch your attention? Good. Be there -- the event starts on March 14th. For more information about the event, check out the event on Facebook (and join our Facebook group while you\'re at it).
